Closer view of facade structure of the new 2010 Cape Town Stadium

This is the structure where the PVC membrane facade will be attached to
Doesn't it look fantastic with Table Mountain in the back ground ?

Click on images to see large
Excuses for the tree branch in the top corner
it has ruined the composition

At first sight I thought he wasn't wearing a safety line but there is a yellow line lying in front of him Can't see where it is attached to though They are working near the top as you can see in the shot below
The PTFE/glass membrane facade totaling some 30,000 square metres provides one of the significant architectural features of the stadium The facade completely wraps the whole perimeter of the stadium and is supported from some sixty vertical trusses with a series of horizontal fins within the individual membrane fields.

Dismantling of a Cape Town Stadium crane

Here goes the top of the crane ..just look closely at all the wires... all the men clinging to the facade structure, the men hanging along in a basket Click on bottom image for the best view Its incredible !
Watch the men on top of the crane and climbing inside the crane Absolutely fascinating to watch

Darn I shall miss this activity so much once its finnished but this evening when I came back from the movies I saw that there is allot to be done on the facade structure at the back of the stadium and I mean allot,it is not in anyway as advanced as this side

Where the world will meet in 2010: The new Cape Town Stadium

Early evening Sept 2 , the so called blue hour ...which I find so difficult to capture with my Canon S5 IS which is well known for the "noise" when shooting in low light
Posting this one for no other reason then that I like it :)
The above shot was this evening 23.00 PM Sept 2

and this was night of Sept 1
Spot the difference...

"Cape Town Stadium" might be the name for this new stadium after all lets face it, the real and only "Green Point Stadium" is just a ruin at its feet

Sunday, August 30, 2009

More then half of the clear glass on the roof of the new 2010 Green Point Stadium is now installed

I am getting rather fed up mentioning it, but sadly it was another hazy day
Its Sunday night , the only night in the week when there is no visible activity on the stadium
