Book in Cape Town in 2010 Its the most beautiful city of South Africa

If you need accomodation my advice is not to bother with the big hotels, they are blocked booked by FIFA / Match and Tour Operators
Rather choose a nice 4 star guesthouse breakfast included, once you try them you will never book a hotel again (in Cape Town)

Below are reliable websites to book your own accomodation and dont worry about rediculous prices I have stayed in 3 different 4 star guesthouses myself (before that I used to stay in 4 and 5 star hotels in Cape Town )and asked if they will raise their prices, they will slightly, but they are not asking silly prices and are way cheaper then the hotels, yet just as comfortable and you get most likely far better service considering how busy it is going to be .

Do look at the Cape Town map before you choose, the closer to the Stadium and the V&A Waterfront the more expensive its going to be, yet I would go for that option since you will save in time and the expense of transport, if you are in walking distance of those 2 venues

2010 Green Point Stadium, Cape Town 85% complete

The fibre glass teflon cloth underneath the glass roof. The translucent roof is now in an advanced state and will be complete in Speptember, the fiber glass cloth allows natural lighting through and reduces reliance on artificial lights, it will also contain the noise

The fibreglass-like cloth membrane design is partly permeable. This “breathing” softer inner skin disperses sound waves and, since it is not a hard surface, absorbs sound into the body of the roof. The outer part of the roof is fixed glass, which provides a hard resonant surface which reflects sound waves back into the body of the roof. Through the sloping surface of the roof, sound waves are diffracted back against the soft inner skin membrane, where they are further dispersed.

As preparations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup move into higher gear, construction of the new Granger Bay Boulevard (linking Green Point to the V&A Waterfront) and the new traffic circle adjacent to the Green Point Stadium are at an advanced stage.

The raised Green Point circle will allow on-foot access to the Stadium and Urban Park precincts underneath it, without walkers having to contend with heavy traffic The new road, Granger Bay Boulevard, runs from the circle and comes out on Mouille Point's Beach Road, between the historic Somerset Hospital and Fort Wynyard buildings.

A new Integrated Rapid Transit (IRT) system bus station is also planned for the centre island between the new traffic circle and the Portswood Road intersection on Western Boulevard, to meet public transport requirements for the World Cup 2010 event.

This is was what the weather did in Cape Town today

It kicked up massive waves in the Atlantic Ocean, so I first headed to Camps Bay
He got soaked a little later, by a massive wave which caught me unaware too. Frankly he was foolish to stand there, if he had been swept away he would have been gone forever !

Alongside the southernmost urban centre in Africa, separating city from ocean, lies an unusual strip of land. The Sea Point Promenade - and the public swimming pools at its centre - forms a space unlike any other in Cape Town. Right here, slightly away from the hustle and bustle of the business area, life is paraded, most unapologetically in all its forms… Over-made-up power-walkers, speed past homeless persons, kissing above the rocks and rent boys waiting for the next pick-up. Trendy teenagers eat ice creams, as elderly ladies parade dejected pet dogs on elastic leashes. I have been dying to go up Signal Hill to shoot the roof, anxious to be in time before its completed but with the haze it was no use. This afternoon I took my chance because tomorrow 80% chance of rain forecast

Why has SAIL/Stade de France not signed the 2010 Green Point Stadium operator contract yet ?

I wonder how many people realise that:
While the contract has not yet been signed, the preferred stadium operators are a consortium of Stade de France, which operates a successful stadium in Paris, and the South African sports marketing company SAIL.

The naming rights were expected to be announced after negotiations with the preferred operator.

The road to the 2010 Green Point Stadium, Cape Town

A small road off High Level Road in Green Point. "Thank you" to the 2 patient drivers who waited for me to take this shot Its amazing how my photography always get people to comment While I was shooting here, people in passing cars would stick their thumb up, nodding and smiling broadly. Two guys licking an ice cream stood by,watching the stadium and commenting : Its beautiful, hey ? A French guy arriving at his home, called out "Did you get a good shot ?" If you like you can come and take some photos from my balcony ! :)

While I drove home this evening, I passed this interesting atmospheric scene of construction workers celebrating something with a braai (barbeque)

Working on a huge Green Point Common waterfeature right behind the new 2010 Stadium in Cape Town

These waterfeatures will be used as holding ponds for winter rainwater which drains from the Common land and collected off the inward-sloping stadium roof. When the need for water is great in the summer they will be a back up to the natural springwater which will be piped in from the Oranjezicht springs.

Work on the upgrading and reconfiguration of the Green Point Common into the Green Point Urban Park (sports precinct and public park) that will surround the 2010 FIFA World Cup stadium is well advanced

When the project is completed, March 2010, the common will accommodate several sporting codes and public recreation areas, including a new golf course, improved transport infrastructure and a 12,5-hectare Urban Park in the south-east corner.The entire park and the green open spaces are being re-landscaped at a total cost of about R310 million. This figure includes roadworks (R98 million) and stormwater drainage (R15 million). After 2010, an eco centre is proposed that would feature a biodiversity garden with information on Cape Town’s unique flora and fauna. Other possibilities being investigated are a tea garden, a trimpark and a skateboard park.

The nightshot is hot from my camera todayAugust 6 and the day shot, a few hours earlier this afternoon.

I have a new camera since a few days but have not been able to use it much yet, I am getting more and more frustrated with the weather, its not bad weather, its a mixed batch but so hazy its a waste of time to go out for a shoot

I can handle fog, in fact I rather see fog, I got some exciting shots with the fog, but this wishy washy defused grey light is impossible, so you will have to bear with me, I would love to go to Milnerton area and shoot from there Hopefully during this long weekend, keep your fingers crossed for me please !

Smelling the fresh sea breeze while walking along Mouille Point's Beach Road in Cape Town

Its been wet, grey and cold in Cape Town these last few days, but thankfully the sun peeped through the clouds again late afternoon.
I had a look at the stadium first, from the deck of Café Neo (Free WIFI internet access ) and then crossed the road, to the promenade behind the Light House, from where I took this photo. The Mouille Point promenade is Cape Town's answer to California, as droves of joggers, rollerbladers and walkers power their way along the paved sea front.
Its all part of the Green Point Area which is being upgraded for 2010

You might have noticed that the stadium bowl is surrounded by a podium/concourse/plaza

This was necessary, since its all rock underneath, and removing the rock would have cost too

much so its to reduce and soften the visual and height impact of the stadium structure

Under the podium entrance level are two floors, they will mainly be housing parking bays and players’ operational areas. The underground areas also have an extremely complex ventilation design to supply and extract air and smoke and pressurise corridors, to keep the crowds safe, in the event of a fire anywhere in the stadium .

Camps Bay ...a 20 minutes drive from Green Point, Cape Town

Camps Bay close to Green Point is one of the most popular and most expensive suburbs in Cape Town. The reason is its stunning location at the foot of the majestic Twelve Apostles, a mountain range belonging to the Table Mountain range, and its proximity to the centre of town, via Kloof Nek road.

Kloof Nek road is the road I took from Green Point its slightly longer but quicker in timethen the winding coastal road but both are spectacular
If you look here Kloof Nek Road goes right between Table Mountain and Lions Head and down into Camps Bay The various Seaboard suburbs are described here
This photo (above) is in Camps bay and the photo below is from a spot between The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Camps bay If you want to stay in Camps Bay area during the 2010 World Cup just remember there is only one road in and out which means long queues at peak time and you could be stuck for a considerable long time

The mountain is Lions Head which you usually see from the other side on my blog, like here as seen from the Green Point Metropolitan Golf course

If I were to come to Cape Town for the 201o Soccer World Cup I would stay in Green Point.

Its so close to the Waterfront with all its shops, entertainment and restaurants bear in mind many roads will be closed off on the day the matches are played, so make sure you are not staying far from this area .

I would not stay in a hotel but in a 4 or 5 star guest house, I have stayed in 5 star ( The Table bay Hotel) and 4 star hotels The Radisson Blu Hotel and 2 weeks in a loft apartment in the Protea Hotel Victoria Junction all close to the Waterfront and I stayed in 4 star guest houses and the latter are by far the best deal and if you choose with care the guest houses can rival the 5 and 4 star hotels, in some cases even surpass them
