Growing Hospitality Tent Camp on the Green Point Common and old Stadium site

The first hospitality tent on the old Green Point Stadium site was put up today

Seven Seas Voyager All suite cruise ship  leaves Cape Town

See how I first captured her leaving the V&A Waterfront  here

That was in 2007 with my first camera
my beloved Point and Shoot Canon PowerShot S3 IS
which sadly died a grewsome camera death
I had replaced it with the Canon PowerShot S5 IS
and it died of a broken heart

A walk from Mouille Light house to New Port Deli,Wakame, Wafu and Pepenero

Is a seaside cafe with a relaxed vibe Greek/mediterranean food Order your food and drinks at the counter then take a seat on the deck. Views of  the red-and-white painted  lighthouse or the Stadium and Table Mountain on the other side

I like this one for a coffee, or lunch

Cafe Neo is on the corner, right opposite the Light house
This is ofcourse the urban park as seen from my house

Behind me is the sea
My walk started at 4.30 which was just a little early for the usual crowd, running, walking, jogging along the boulevard There is a small pizza place at the left corner of the photo, Cafe Bravo
I have eaten only once there, I am not a pizza lover but its always packed or busy

This is what that stretch of road looks like from Signal Hill side
The Urban park is supposed to be open before the World Cup starts

If you click the image you can just see the stadium peeking out between the buildings
when you walk here its so much nicer then my photos are able to show
Can you see Table Mountain as well ?
Really the views are stunning

Still walking along this wide sea of grass
Here ...On the left of me is the Atlantic ocean

Now I can see my favourite restaurants

The one on the right is a building with 3 of my favourite restaurants
along this part of the boulevard

Newport Deli, Wakame, Wafu all in one building
and Pepenero opposite on  the left
These are my favourites along this stretch of road called  Beach Road  Newport Deli has awesome breakfasts and lunch freshly made on the premises but no alcohol ,its always packed in the weekends and busy on other days Views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Stadium and Mountains

Wakame is the restaurant above Newport Deli , it is Eastern fusion food and I love this one for dinner
for the seaviews, the vibe and the food can be very good
The sunset and people watching are other favourites
It gets very very busy in the weekends and busy every day during holidays and summer
Always book your restaurants if you have a particular one in mind or you will be disappointed

Wafu is a bar at the top I love this one for lunch I like to sit at one of the high tables and watch the world go by and the boats ofcourse and eating delicious sushi with a cold glass of white wine or come at night for dinner or drinks Its very very popular at sunset for drinks the deck outside gets packed with beautiful bodies

Pepenero is an Italien Restaurant read more here

No topless girls as far as i know but its
The City Sightseeing Bus

Good to get your bearings when you are new in town !

Wafu at the top has fantastic views

This is taken from my house , the tent vllage for the Two Oceans is still being build
Do you recognice the 3 restaurant building ?

I took these last photos this evening
It was cloudy and a "cold" strong wind
It was definitely autumn weather today

The sky started off pretty grey I did not expect to take any photos of a sunset ...

In fact after walking this way for a while I crossed the road to look at the urban park but was almost blown out of my fleece so headed back for the car

when suddenly the sun came out for the last time

and I hastily shot these last 2 for you

Ocean liner Queen Mary 2 leaving Cape Town. Get the best view here !

The Queen Mary 2 who was only one night in town caused quite a stir in Cape Town,  she was mentioned on the news.... I even got calls from friends to alert me :) and  people were grinding to a halt and parking on the streets where-ever they happened to get sight of  her !

The QM2 is on a 108-day world cruise after leaving Cape Town she sails for St Helana Island, Rio de Janeiro and Miami before heading back across the Atlantic to Southampton.

Frankly I was like a jack in the box myself :)  I was on my shoot from 4.30 till 7.30, drove  between top of Signal hill and  top road of Signal Hill to the  Radisson Hotel then the pier near the Table Bay Hotel, also nipped over close to the stadium to shoot the workers closing the Western side gap in the facade, then when she was leaving at 6 PM I walked around the base of Signal Hill, away from the mass of other people and started shooting till after dark

I saw the original Queen Mary, which is now a floating hotel in Long Beach, California and have been on many an ocean liner as a child, cruising from the Caribbean, where I grew up, to Europe, so I am fascinated and always interested to see them
Here is an interesting review with photos ofrom someone who took a cruise on her

The massive Queen Mary 2 attempts one of the more tricky manoeuvres
a three-point turn in Cape Town harbour

She is one of the biggest ocean liners
if not the biggest ..

Captain ! Not much room left aft !

Finally ready to go !

Bon voyage !

Really special to witness this :)

What a sight to behold !

and she sailed right between Green Point and Robben island

and this is where I suddenly got distracted by the beauty of our own  Queen
and forgot all about QM 2 who rapidly disappeared into the sunset
when I arrived home minutes later all I could see were her lights fading away
 in to the night

New Cape Town Stadium Lit By Lightening

Its been incredibly hot in Cape Town
and for quite a while there was lightening above the sea
but not above the stadium I could see it move to the east though
and then suddenly Crack !
 Got ya !

Its pouring with rain here
what a spectacular show it was
and all for free !

I actually had a whole different set of images to post
but that will have to wait till tomorrow

What the Cape Town stadium looks like from my home on February 1 2010

Back to blogging a little later then expected,
since I came back with the flu and am still not recovered
and not strong enough to go outside yet

Hamiltons Rugby club has started to prepare for the 2010 CT Tens.

I took this on Jan 18 the night before I left for Egypt
all 360 spotlights of the "Ring of fire" were blazing away,
A rarity nowadays, since  most nights the stadium is quite dark

Green Point Urban Park in Cape Town

SSV Victoria
Its always interesting to watch the traffic passing Robben island
and when I saw the Seven Seas Voyager passing I drove to the Waterfront to capture her docking
since I had to do my weekly shopping anyway

Here she comes and its a tight fit
there were loads of people watching
even though we get plenty of cruise ships this is a big one

Seven Seas Voyager is a cruise ship for Regent Seven Seas Cruises.  Every cabin on board is a suite with a balcony. In 2006, a Forbes.com article listed the Asia leg of the Voyager's world cruise as the most expensive cruise in the Asia region

Sunday october 11 2009 World Cup Green Point Stadium images Another facade strip of PVC mesh is attached

Midday October 11
The 8th PVC facade strip on the West side is about to be put up

By mid afternoon the strip is up
Note the weather today.. it was warm but not very sunny

Its only 4.15 PM but it looks like its evening. The blue roof is the Table Bay Hotel in the V&A Waterfront
The first time I came to Cape Town I stayed in this hotel (Company paid ) and my corner room which was high up, was facing Signal Hill and my current house, I obviously then had no idea I would ever live here one day

6 o'clock
The sky has cleared up and I am debating if I should drive up closer or maybe go up Signal Hill but then nature decides for me.. it clouds over and turns grey again so instead I pour myself a glass of wine and shoot from the comfort of my home  :)

Believe it or not but I drove up Signal Hill in the rain, it was a dreary day but as I arrived the sun broke through... Have a great weekend !
