Rugby Festival in new 2010 Cape Town Stadium told in photos

Disappointingly I was not allowed to bring in my Canon 450D

No SLR's were allowed only compacts are permitted

so the photos in the stadium are all taken with my

Canon

Powershot SX20 IS

Long queues for drinks but there were some vendors outside

 where you could get a drink in minutes

You can see the blue roof of Table bay Hotel

Quite different from when I was on my own here

some months ago

I was so excited to be in the stadium

I took 224 photos :)

Its gorgeous

So sad I could not properly capture it with my SLR

The atmosphere was terrific

Happy smiles all around

and no problems or rowdiness anywhere I could see or hear

A seat with a view

This was a goal !!!

Stormers hooker Deon Fourie ensured his name would feature in the history books by scoring the first try ever in the new stadium after 3 minutes and 35 seconds of play.

It was pretty warm but partly clouded

 Table mountain was hidden in the clouds

At no time was Table Mountain out of the clouds

Such a pity..

Oh and this was a smoking area

There were several designated smoking areas around the stadium

Shame about the deep shadows cast on the pitch

even though the lights were on

A peek into the "Sausage den"

I was very disappointed not to be able to buy a glass of wine

but happy to see they sold Magnum icecream !

Schalk Burger, left the field in the first half with what looked like a shoulder injury.

Centre Paul Bosch also left the field with what looked like a broken arm and he is not likely to feature in the Super 14.

Sorry I did not catch you smiling at me

No rest to sit down !

Its a great stadium

This is the opening I can see from my home

The Stormers won 47-13 after leading 18-13 at halftime.

Its all over and going home

There were 2 helicopters:

  An ambulance and  a police helicopter on stand by

The party in Hamiltons Rugby club is in full swing

Sitting there so pretty ...

Grass on the Urban Park in Green Point and the Stadium at night

The started laying grass yesterday and I saw sprinklers going for the first time

Up till now they watered the trees by hand

The Castle Cape Town Tens party is in full swing tonight

More trees have been planted and they are making good progress with the paving

on the circular path since I was last there on Jan 15

The irrigation water for the Park and the golf course is still not linked up with the underground springs located in Oranjezicht. Apparently it will be at least another month before they can stop using potable water.

The grass on some of the Golf course greens is not knitting well

and will have to be replaced but in general the Golf course is on target to be opened on the first of April

but the opening maybe delayed due to Fifa constrains

Work is going on the new athletics track and grandstand

 on the site of the old Green Point Stadium

Hamiltons Rugby club set up for the Castle Cape Town Tens

As the final countdown to the Castle Cape Town Tens continues, tickets will be on sale on sale until 1 pm at the gates at Hamilton's on Saturday and Sunday

Tickets to the Stormers-Boland match at the Cape Town Stadium - and thereby the Tens exhibition match beforehand - are sold out, BUT tickets (the so-called 'junior' Castle Cape Town Tens weekend pass) are still available for ALL the Cape Town Tens action at Hamilton's throughout the rest of the weekend.
These 'junior' weekend passes can still be bought on Computicket

Looking forward to see the first ever rugby match in the new Cape Town stadium.

 but so far I feel like death warmed up :(

 since I came back with the flu and am still not recovered

and not strong enough to go outside yet

Hamiltons Rugby club has started to prepare for the 2010 CT Tens.

I took this on Jan 18 the night before I left for Egypt

all 360 spotlights of the "Ring of fire" were blazing away,

A rarity nowadays, since  most nights the stadium is quite dark
