I hope the Green Point Stadium will not look like a grey blob on the horizon

Two more cranes came down today

This was at 19.00 PM this evening

At 18.00 PM a little bit of blue sky after a grey cool day

I fervently hope and pray that this is not it.... that they are going to attach another PVC mesh on the outside of the frame because I think these grey sheets look like dirty washing, it will look awful

  Took this at around 17.30 PM I drove past the stadium to see if they had sorted the wrinkles yet

but there is obviously a problem.. now there is a gap held together by ropes...

Unfortunately and upsettingly I knocked over my tripod with my Canon PS 5S IS, which was my baby, it could do everything except cook, unfortunately they dont sell it anymore and so I am now on the waiting list (Arrives beginning october in Cape Town)

It is the closest to my broken only 1 year old Canon 5S IS
its cheaper to buy the SX20 camera for close ups then buying a new lens for my SLR Cam

Where is the most beautiful Soccer Stadium in the world ?

Start of top truss construction on the Green Point Stadium

On June 11 the first truss on the upper side of the stadium was installed Eventually the PVC membrane will be attached to these trusses It hadn't registered with me that this was a truss too, initially I thought it was a contraption to do with the laser show :)

After a few stunningly beautiful and really hot days we are back to winter weather, grey, dreary and wet a very wet weekend but on Teusday it will be sunny again and
20°C expected on thursday

This colourful dredger caught my attention, it is called Prins Der Nederlanden and while I am typing this its coming back into harbour ..I wonder why

View of Camps Bay

Camps Bay is a 15 minutes drive from Green Point with about 20 restaurants along the palm lined boulevard this is where the seriously wealthy people live I like it because it has a permanent holiday atmosphere and its a great place for people and car watching while enjoying a sundowner or dinner but I tend to avoid it in the summer because the cars are bumper to bumper and the beaches packed with bodies


"Blues" a rather famous restaurant which you can see in the middle of the below photo, used to be the place to go to in Cape Town for a special dinner, it has huge panoramic windows with views of the beach where you can hear and see waves crashing over big boulders and watch stunning sunsets I have been twice end enjoyed the setting but the food and the service is not what it used to be anymore I much prefer Tuscany Beach which is almost next door

The first (white) trusses have been installed I could only see 3 finnished so far, this is where the PVC membrane will be attached to

I was surprised to learn that Zoliswa Gila (31) has an "office" at a dizzying height of 80 metres (262 feet) She is a crane driver and helps build the new Green Point Stadium to host some of the 2010 football World Cup matches

I took this photo when I saw the Green Point Common for the first time in my life, which was Jan 2007 This was the old stadium on a very brown and uninteresting looking Green Point Common
At the time I knew they would build the new stadium on the same site and was very apprehensive... doubted very much that it wouldn't be an eyesore

Now I have to eat my words I really do love the look of it and cant imagine my view without this beautiful piece of art which is the new stadium You will really have to come and see it with your own eyes to understand this

This shot is from May 13 2009The Common will have an urban park, sports fields; rugby,tennis,soccer,athletics, bowls,
cricket and a beautiful golf course with lots of water features

This is part of the new golf course which is progressing at lightening speed

The biggest surprise was that after the mist there were suddenly greens and fairways which weren't there before The way they did this is by taking off the top layer of the grass of the old golf course and laying it down on the new one By leaving the roots in the old golf course they are able to repeat this process I saw that the grass is already re growing again on the old course
