Come to my beautiful city: Cape Town, South africa

Driving home this evening I stopped to capture the view from the road up Signal Hill
Its over the CBD and the Port of Cape Town

then I just turned into Tafelberg road because with the thick misty heavy cloud over the city, the last sun rays just catching the buildings I couldn't resist taking this shot it was begging me to share this view with you

Strange.. I had published my blogpost last night but it wasnt here this morning.. it is now ;)

Believe it or not this was the second time in a row this weekend that I went up Signal Hill to shoot the new 2010 Green Point stadium from above at sunset when something spoiled my fun This evening it was sudden fog even though I had left Green Point bathing in sunshine

but 19 minutes later when I was back at home again I shot the photo below The fog was just high up Signal Hill

I almost hit a whole flog of guineafowl you can see them next to the road which is the road up Signal Hill

Where I was walking yesterday, this part of the Common is still mostly un-developed and rather muddy

View from the golf course I think that tomorrow the gap in the fence will be closed off, they haven't been working on the Green Point Common this weekend but now that its been dry the last 2 days I am sure they will steam full power ahead
Its hectic when I watch them working on the Common so many heavy machinery at work

If you need really affordable accomodation in 2010 close to the Stadium and the V&A Waterfront with all its shops entertainment and restaurants then the Ritz hotel (tall building ) is a good bet people seem to be happy there and think they get good value for money

Madly and crazily in love with the new Cape Town Soccer stadium

I must be in love or mad or both I never tire looking at it or photographing it

Like the sea, this stadium never looks the same, it changes with the light and always looks beautifulIn my opinion the scenery and the stadium compliment eachother, many have likend it to a ship, with its sweeping wavy roof I guess it could indeed be mistaken for a ship from a distance

A random tit bit of information...A single incorrect switching off stadium lights could cost R75k

Not a mistake you would like to make then ...

What a stunning sunset it was again last night It started off with this big blue gap and holes in the clouds and then it was just one long changing palet of spectacular colours I really didn't know how to quickly turn every which way to shoot this ever changing scene ! Then in the middle of it, it rained for about 3 minutes with heavy drops, so I and my cam had to dive for cover

There are more to come tomorrow !

The road up Signal Hill, Cape Town

I live on the Atlantic side of Signal Hill but the entrance to this road is from the city its only 10 minutes from my home then another 5 minutes to the top

I stopped along the way and turned back to take the Table Mountain with the cloud

few minutes later stopped again to take the road shot

Some people walk up but there are also hikers,cyclers and joggers some run with their dog

This is the top road I usually shoot from this bend in the road since you get the Green Point Common and stadium ,the Atlantic ocean with Robben island to the left then the whole city of Cape Town Devils Peak and Table Mountain on the right The scenery is so vast, there is no way one shot can take it all in I am used to it now but in the beginning I almost died with excitement The below shot is from April 2009

They are working frantically on the roof as I am writing ...I see many more men then usually because there is severe weather forecast, its going to rain the whole weekend

I live on the slope of Signal Hill ... there is a road up to the top of this hill and tomorrow I will show you the road I took, to take the above shot of the roof of the Green Point Stadium

The re shaping of the Green Point Common May 8 2009

As seen from the "Tigresse" on a sunset tour,the largest sailing catamaran in Africa

a tourist boat and my prefered one, this was my third time, the price is very reasonable

This is a view of the redevelopment of the Green Point Common The vision for the urban park is to create a quality multi-purpose open space and sports complex that will accommodate a range of sports codes and sporting facilities. It will also cater for limited informal trading and a range of other recreational pursuits for inner city residents. The sporting codes include soccer, golf, athletics, rugby, cricket, tennis and bowls.
Thank God its a beautiful sunny friday morning in Cape Town !

The golfcourse with water features is well under way several greens are already grassed over They took off the top grass layer of the old Golf course which will quickly regrow again, this way they create instant fairways and greens
